Zeo Genesis Travelogues
Greetings, star-nomads! You can call me Trev. (You can also call me Trevallion Franklin-Ridgeway III, but I’d rather you didn’t). I’ve left behind my shallow executive existence to explore the Hundred Suns, to re-connect with insignificant voiders just like you. These are my travels. You’re welcome.
“I’ve just eaten my fourth of seven courses at Tengu’s Table, the largest, finest restaurant-hotel in Grav City."
"The owner, O, is treating me like a king after saving her son during some hot zeo-on-gigalizard action down on Saienten. A hero? That’s for any civic awards bodies that might be listening to decide."
“Her Tengu syndicate, she tells me, is far more than a food seller, though. She has ‘multiple, perfectly legitimate business interests’ across this hovering metropolis. Tengu seems to practically control this part of it, Little Heppon. Indeed, some folks seem wary of them, but O is perfectly genial to me.”
“The golden opulence of this massive dining hall illustrates the Tengu’s success, though O tells me they’re not untroubled. Grav City Prefecture Police seek ‘protection money,’ and the ‘dishonorable’ rival Hachiman syndicate’s attempts to usurp Tengu businesses can turn ‘most hostile.’"
"Rough neighbors. At least the Tengu aren’t into anything dodgy!”
“O’s just taken a call...things have gotten tense. Apparently it’s ‘just a competitor nuisance,’ but it seems every other diner here is actually her bodyguard, has stood up, and now are pointing pistols at the big doors… through which I hear… gunfire? Explosions? Those doors only go further into the spacescraper, so it’s coming from inside.”
“We’re off, then! A black and orange Amaroq just widened the doorway and murdered nearly everyone with a RIP gun!"
"If it wasn’t for a pair of Soldats bursting from statues we’d have been dead, too. O’s concussed, thus over my shoulder—like mother like son, they say—and I’m getting us outside while the Soldats fight rear guard."
"Turning down this corridor prevents the Amaroq from getting clear shots. I overhear a Soldat pilot say it’s a hit on O, an unprecedented, outrageous move, a potentially massive power shift.”
“Nearly there… through the doors…here we go! Where’s her pistol? Couple of shots ought to scatter the crowd. Go on, get out of here!”
“Right, crowds panicking, alarms blaring, but a moment to catch my breath. I’ll just pop you here, O. Everyone OK? Apart from the dead ones, I mean—sniper on the rooftop!”
“FUNT ME! I’m so sorry, O, I’m so sorry. Wait, no, why are you looking at me like that? No, that’s not how I—another sniper, look over there! Right, time to get lost in this crowd.”
“Stay zippy, star-nomads…”
